41 At Home Date Night Ideas: Romantic & Fun Dates to Stay In

0

Want to spend a date night at home but tired of scrolling through Netflix for the 100th time? This is the ULTIMATE list of at home date night ideas.

As much as I absolutely love being out and about with my favorite person, sometimes I just need a night in! For so long, my boyfriend and I used to just plop on the couch and binge our favorite shows, but that got old real fast – especially because it became an easy default after work. Now, we aim to be wayyy more intentional about our date nights, especially if we’re going to stay home (vs actually going to do something). Plus, one of my favorite parts about at home date night ideas is that they’re often budget-friendly and repeatable!!

SO – I’ve put together some super fun date ideas to do at home with your partner! It’s packed with all the fun ways you can spend time together, whether you’re feeling more chill-in-our-pjs vibe or romantic. This list has everything from playing your favorite games together to making vision boards together. Definitely save this post for when you’re looking for great ideas for future date nights 😉 There are so many date night activities at home!!

This post is all about the best at home date night ideas.

ROMANTIC & SENTIMENTAL AT HOME DATE NIGHT IDEAS

1. Make a romantic dinner for two

This at home date night idea is perfect for a special occasion. Instead of going out to a fancy dinner, set the mood for a romantic date night by turning your living room into a candlelit restaurant. Light candles, play some classic love songs in the background, and cook your favorite meal (or try a new recipe!) together. Set the table with a bottle of wine, and you’ve created something much more intimate to enjoy at home 🙂

2. Play a conversation card game

Making time to be vulnerable with each other is so important. Pick up a couple’s conversation card game like “We’re Not Really Strangers” or {The And} Couples Version. These card games are designed to take you deeper and build emotional intimacy through meaningful questions. I absolutely love nights where my partner and I just sit and chat – these are perfect to help drive those conversations.

3. Build a playlist of your love story

Music is my personal favorite way to evoke different memories! Take a night with your favorite person and put together a playlist with all your favorite songs that remind you of big and small moments in your relationship. It could be your first road trip, your first kiss, your song. Then hit shuffle, relive your timeline through music, and soak it allll in.

4. Plan your dream vacation

Spend a night designing your ultimate dream trip, even if you’re not going anywhere just yet. Make a Pinterest board and plan your dream itinerary! It’s a great way to feel aligned and inspired together. Plus, it’s a baby step towards making that dream vacation actually happen!

5. Watch old home videos or scroll through photos

This one is my favorite at home date night ideas!! Go through old baby photos, your social media, or even just recent photos of your fav memories. We’ll often just sit on our phones and look through the thousands of puppy photos we have, or all the photos of our trips. It’s also a great idea if you’re getting to know each other better – you can see each other’s entire journeys.

6. Build a scrapbook together

Scrapbooking is the BEST if you’re sentimental :’) Pull out your favorite photos, tickets, wedding album pics (if you’re married), or silly screenshots and create a scrapbook filled with memories. This is a super creative way to spend quality time while capturing your story in a physical way. We love to look back on these every anniversary.

7. Create a time capsule

Time capsules are such a fun way to capture the moment, here and now! Get a box, write little love notes or predictions for your future, add mementos from your relationship, and seal them to open in a year (or on a big anniversary!). This is such a special way to celebrate your growth as a couple and create something meaningful together that you can look back on.

8. Start your couple bucket list

I think it’s so important in every relationship to have things you’re looking forward to doing together! Spend a date night make a list of all your bucketlist ideas: travel spots, experiences, random life goals. Once you’re done, keep it somewhere you’ll visit often 🙂

9. Take personality tests together

My partner and I talk about everything – and even after 10 years of knowing each other, taking personality tests together STILL helped uncover more!! Spend an evening taking quizzes like 16 Personalities, Enneagram, the love language test, etc and talk about your results. Such a great way to better understand each other and your relationships!!

10. Build a blanket fort

This one makes me feel like a little kid in the best way. We dragged pillows and blankets into the living room, added fairy lights, and made the coziest lil fort for our movie night. I swear everything is cuter when you’re snuggled inside a fort with snacks and your favorite person. Bonus: tell ghost stories or play truth or dare in there for extra giggles.

Watch your favorite childhood movies

This one is a fun twist on movie night!! Indulge in the nostalgia by throwing on your fav childhood movies (think animated classics, early 2000s rom-coms, or Disney Channel throwbacks). It’s such a fun at home date night idea and a great way to bond over the shows and characters you both grew up loving. Add a fort and some fairy lights to make it a full movie night experience.

11. Create your couple goals list

This is your chance to dream big—where do you want to be in 1, 5, 10 years together? Talk about house projects, finances, future date ideas, or even how you’ll support each other’s growth. It’s a great date night idea for when you’re feeling inspired and want to align your vision. Pro tip: do it during a chill night with wine, music, and no cell phones to distract you.

12. Recreate your first date at home

This at-home date night idea might take a bit of creativity… but whatever you did the first time you went out – bring it home! If it was a sushi spot, order sushi. If it was a movie, rewatch it. So sentimental to reflect back on how far you’ve come.

14. Stargazing on the balcony or backyard

This one’s on our summer bucket list. You don’t need anything fancy—just a blanket, maybe a glass of wine, and a playlist of classic love songs. Lay back, look at the beauty of the night sky, and talk about literally everything or nothing. It’s free, it’s deep, and it’s soooo romantic.

CREATIVE & CHILL AT HOME DATE NIGHT IDEAS

15. Paint and sip at home

I love a good at-home paint and sip night!! We’ll either follow a Bob Ross-style tutorial or just go rogue haha. Wine + paint = total masterpiece or total mess, and both are perfect. It’s one of my favorite at-home date night ideas when we want something cute, cozy, and creative.

16. Draw each other

LOL this one can be a super chaotic date night (prepare to get your feelings hurt if your partner isn’t a great artist bahaha). It’s low effort and sooo fun if your love language is playful banter. Honestly one of my go-to suggestions when people ask for silly, easy date nights!

17. Make your own pottery

Okay this one is on my date night bucket list!! You just need some air-dry clay and a lil imagination. I love the idea of making something cute for each other – like a mini bowl, lil heart, or nameplate for the bathroom lol. Tap into your creative side with this at home date night idea!

18. Sculpt clay / magnets

Grab some clay and make little sculptures together!! You can find tons of inspo for this on Pinterest. Add on magnets and you can turn anything you make into cute decor for your fridge!!

19. Take an online class together

I’m a huge believer that learning or experiencing new things together always brings us closer. Whether it’s cooking, dance, art, or photography – there are sooo many free or affordable online classes you can take! We did a tea tasting class and learned all about the different types and how to make them. This is such a fun idea for couples who want to shake up their at-home date nights with a new hobby.

20. Put together vision boards

Vision boards are SUCH a fun idea for the start of the year or season (or honestly whenever you feel like you need to realign your life). Make one together to reflect all your goals as a couple. Add a scented candle and your favorite songs for the best vibes.

21. Build your dream home on Pinterest

This one’s for my cozy homebody girlies. What’s a better at home date idea than… dreaming about your future home? What does the kitchen look like? What color is it? How many rooms? It’s the perfect quality time idea that feels lowkey but still super connecting 🙂

22. Make candles at home

I’ve only done candle making at a shop (which was priceeeeyyyy haha) and it was SO fun!! There are kits you can get now where you can do this in the comfort of your own home – pick your own scents, pour them into jars, and wait for them to set. How cute would it be to also do this every season together??

23. Film a silly vlog

As a vlogger myself, it was SUPER fun to include my partner in one of them!! I filmed a weekend reset and he was part of it. Soo much fun, especially to look back on. Doesn’t have to be long either – could totally be a quick TikTok!

24. Host a mini book club

If you’re both tired of looking at screens, disconnect and do a book club instead! You could pick a short story or even an essay and read it together. Then discuss! This is a great at-home date idea to slow down and spark good conversation.

25. Play board games

We LOVE a good friendly competition moment OR a solid teamwork opportunity!! Fun competition games: Uno, Exploding Kittens, Sushi Go, Banana Grams. Our fav co-op game is Pandemic! Also a great double date idea.

26. Do a puzzle

Puzzles are always a good time! Make it extra fun by putting on a sweet playlist, light a delicious candle, make your favorite drinks and sit down for a puzzle night. Perfect way to chat and create a piece of art together!

27. Try TikTok couple challenges

We’ve done the “how well do you know me,” the dance routines (horrible), and even the “who’s more likely to…” trend. Best part of this one is that there’s usually new trends and challenges popping up all the time!

28. Try a dance tutorial

Find a fun dance on TikTok or YouTube and try to learn it together!! Great for quality time, movement, and creating hilarious memories together.

29. Play video games

We looove this at home date night idea – especially obsessed with co-op games! Some of our fav video games are It Takes TwoMinecraft, and Mario Kart (which always ends in chaos lol). Currently playing Ark Evolved! There are tooons of online games you can find too 🙂

30. Watch a stand-up comedy special

Love a good comedy show but don’t actually want to leave the house? Find a comedy special on Netflix or YouTube!! Highly recommend for anyone wanting a good laugh w their bestie.

31. Explore on a virtual tour

This one’s on my date night bucket list – you can literally visit museums, aquariums, and cute European towns from your couch. It’s the budget-friendly way to travel!

32. Pamper with a spa night

Who doesn’t need a spa night every now and then? We indulge in this kind of relaxing night every time we just need a reset and rot night haha. Think bubble bath, essential oils, your own face masks, foot rubs, and loooow lighting… Plus you’ll have glowy skin the day after.

33. Do a no-screens night

I definitely thought this one was going to be boring but it’s actually incredible?? We turned off all devices, made a snack board, and just hung out. We talked, journaled, played a card game, and actually connected – no social media distractions. If your love language is quality time, this one is a MUST.

34. Build Legos

Legos definitely aged like fine wine!! They’ve come out with soo many cute kits. This one is perfect for tapping into your inner child and bond over building something together. We usually switch off between being the “builder” vs the “finder” – aka each page, one person will look for all the pieces and the other will build!

FOODIE AT HOME DATE NIGHT IDEAS

35. Have a themed dinner night

Spice things up by picking a theme for dinner! We’ve done “pasta and wine in Italy” and “comfort foods platter” nights – this one’s such a great way to turn dinner into a special meal and ~experience~.

36. Wine taste at home

If you’re feeling bougie and don’t wanna leave the house, just buy a few bottles (don’t even have to be fancy), lay out a cheese board, and pretend you’re at a vineyard wine tasting!! DIY wine tasting always makes for a great time 🙂 Wine Wednesdays anyone?!?

37. Picnic indoors

10/10 romantic vibes for this one!! Lay out a in the living room, lit some scented candles, and make some easy snack foods. It’s lowkey one of the most adorable at-home date nights ever 🙂

Simple, but a classic. We all have our own favorite meals but its time to switch things up a bit! Go grocery shopping together, see what’s in season, and create something new in your kitchen.

39. Bake and decorate cookies together

This date idea is SUCH a cozy date night idea! Whether you’re making them for special occasions (birthdays, Valentine’s Day, etc) or just because, there’s never a bad time to make cookies hehe. Put on your favorite show and chat away!!

40. Make your own personal pizzas

You already know DIY pizza night is classic at home date night idea in our household!! I love just grabbing some dough, pizza sauce, and ALL our favorite toppings to create our own pizzas from scratch.

41. Do a tasting party

Absolutely love this one since I LOVE trying new things LOL. Pick a theme – ice cream flavors, different sparkling waters, peanut butter brands (lol) – go to the grocery store, and rate each one like food critics.

Whether you’re doing a game night or a paint night, these are all the different ways you can spend quality time with your favorite person at home! You don’t necessarily need to spend a ton of money for a fun date night – as long as you’re open to creative ways to make the most of your home.
